IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a landmark partnership with V&A Waterfront, bringing the InterContinental brand to Cape Town with the InterContinental Table Bay.

Originally inaugurated by Nelson Mandela in 1997, this hotel will undergo a multimillion-dollar transformation, featuring 306 rooms, an elevated pool bar, a signature spa, and an exclusive Executive Lounge.

Set to reopen in Q4 2025, the project aims to elevate Cape Town’s hospitality scene, attracting global visitors and enhancing the city’s tourism ambitions.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director of IHG for India, Middle East & Africa, expressed excitement about the hotel’s transformation and its alignment with the InterContinental brand’s essence.

David Green, CEO of V&A Waterfront, emphasized the significant investment and the anticipated boost in international visitors. Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming highlighted the hotel’s storied past and their enthusiasm for its future as part of the InterContinental family.
